Jane Eyre is the protagonist and narrator of the novel; she is an intelligent, honest, poor and not very pretty, young girl forced to fight with inequality and hardship. Although she meets a lot of people who threaten her autonomy, Jane maintains her principles of justice, human dignity, and morality. Her strong belief in gender and social equality challenges the prejudices against women and the poor.
